Hi Emily,
Thanks for dropping in!I looked for something that would affect tomatoes in my reference material with small rust colored spots on tomato leaves but didnt' find anything with a description such as that. It can be hard to identify a plant problem without being able to see it.
It sounds as if it is a bateria problem (although I can't give it a name) and I have an organic solution that I know from experience works. It is a product called 'Soap Shield' and you can purchase it from Gardens Alive. You can find their web link by going to our
'Home' page and clicking on 'Market Place'. I have been using Gardens Alive products for over 10 years. Unfortunatley I can't find many organic products in stores around here, too bad, I think they would be hot sellers. I really like many of their products, especially their Bt to control those nasty little green worms on broccoli and such.
Soap Shield can take care of many bacteria problems. I also have used a product they sell, 'Copper' in a concentrate form, that works great on some bacterial problems. Soap Shield is one of their newer products and is often recommended for the tomato bacterias. Copper works good on tomatoes for early and late blight.
If you live in the U.S. you could take a freshly picked leaf into your County Extension Office, find them in your phone book in the government section. They are good at indentiying problems, especially when you take a sample in. They won't neccessarily recommend a organic solution, so once you find out the cause, write back to me and I will give you an organic solution. But if you can't get around to doing that, check out the Soap Shield.
Happy Gardening,
Diane
