"Whiteflies"

Hi Diane, I put my veggies out side 2 days ago to start hardening them off, yesterday I noticed tiny whiteflies all over my tomatoe plants. I have had fungus flies to deal with, now the whiteflies. Can you suggest an organic spray to get rid of the little buggers? Thanks

Sheri

   Hi Sheri,
We too are having problems with fungus flies and whiteflies. We bought potting soil last fall from Walmart on sale and won’t ever do that again. It had been sitting out in the parking lot all summer but was such at GREAT PRICE! Yea right!!

Insecticidal Soap, Neem, or pyrethrum (you add water and spray with all of these) will help control. Notice I said, “control”, many organic products control not eradicate. You can purchase these products either through a garden center or Garden’s Alive, (found on our ‘Home’ page, click ‘Market Place’ button.) Insecticidal Soap can harm some plants, read your label.

If you don’t keep after them constantly they get ahead of you, they multiply rapidly. We are anxious for the warm weather and we can take all the plants outside and the sunshine will take care of the fungus flies.

I am grateful we got rid of the whiteflies because I had them one year and couldn't beleive how quickly they multiplied and were ALL over the garden! I got them from a fushia plant, common host plant, and since then won't buy fushia even though I think they are gorgeous.

Best Wishes, Diane
