Hi Ken,
Wishing you a Happy New Year also! The Thunbergia in the Park's catalog only grow from 2 to 3 feet tall for two of the culitvars and the T. alata grows from 5 to 8 feet tall. T. alata is the orange/yellow one, is this the color you were expecting? The other colors won't climb your posts high enough.
Call Parks for information about these plants that isn't stated in the catalog to see how far apart they should be planted. Sometimes you can get a knowledgeable person and they also have more written info than we get in the catalog. I have never grown this vine before. If they grow as well as morning glories you should have a beautiful display.
Even if you planted them too close together since they are annuals it won't be horrible. They will just be crowded one season and die. My first year for morning glories was very crowded but still very pretty. I learned a lesson for the following years and ruthlessly 'weed' out all the volunteers in the spring to keep them in check.
Bye, Diane
