Hi Elaine,
You didn't tell me what zone you are in so I can't say for sure if you could plant them now or not. If you live in zone 7 or warmer you could plant pansies now. I know in North Carolina where my sister lives they grow pansies in the winter. But here in zone 5 we are too cold, except a few years ago when we had a very warm winter. Many pansies lived through the whole winter.I can't find anything about "winter pansies", I looked through my many seed catalogs and found many pansies but not per say "Winter" ones. There were some that said they were extra hardy in cold temps. Sometimes nurseries give special plants their own descriptive names which may be why I can't find them.
You would need to purchase pansies locally by now, the season is all ready upon us. If you live in a warm region pansies would have needed to be started weeks ago for blooms during the winter. Get out the yellow pages and call plant nurseries in your area, maybe you can find them.
Bye, Diane
