"Non flowering gladioli/korean chrysanthemums and dahlia"

   Lawrie
The gladiolas were new corms.
The Korean chrysanthemums I grew from seed.
The dahlia tubers I over wintered.
All the above are growing in different parts of the garden and have grown strongly but all have failed to flower.

We have had exceptional temperatures in Kent, England this year and this might be the common factor.

Can any garden buffs suggest what has gone wrong?

   Hi,
I am not surprised that the chrysanthemums didn’t bloom since you started from seed. It isn’t unusual for perennials to take a couple years to bloom when new plants. You should see blooms next year.

I also had dahlias that didn’t bloom for me once I over-wintered them even though the tubers looked OK when I started them in the spring. But I do know of plenty of people who save dahlia tubers year after year and even pass them unto another generation so I know it is done successfully. The gladiolas are also confusing.

I plan on letting our readers know about your posting on the Tip of the Week and ask them to help. So be looking for new postings.

Happy Gardening,
Diane
