"shasta daisies"

Ants are all over the main support stem of my shasta daisy. Is that a problem? Black ants.

   Hi,
It is hard to say. Is the plant suffering? Often times when you see ant activity on a plant like this it is because it is infested with aphids. Aphids are small soft bodied pear shape insects that suck juices from the plant. They secrete 'honeydew' that attracts the ants. Colonies of ants will actually take care of aphids just to harvest the sugary substance.

Look at your plant closely for aphids. If you find them spray the plant with water several days in a row. This will dislodge the aphids and when they are gone they ants will leave.

Most ants don't damage plants. Some organic gardeners even like ants because they help manage some insect pests.

I can't see any aphids but as for the water, it's been raining here for weeks. The plant appears healthy in spite of rain.
Guess I will just watch and wait.
Thanks,
Oiseau

   >How and when do I trim these daisies. I have one that's like a bush and some of the branches have broken during a storm.
