"Blackeyed Susans and Shasta Daisy"

HELLO, Great day here in N.J. 65+. If I start the Toto Blackeyed Susans from seed indoors as by direction on seed packet, will they bloom the same year or will I have to wait till the next year for flowers? And the same question with the Dwarf Shasta Daisy. I need to know before I take out the tall one's I have in the garden now. It would leave a big void if I pulled them out and the shorter plant's didn't grow flowers. Thanks for your help. Ken Cameron

   Hi Ken,
We had 65 degrees also, it was wonderful!

My own experience with both these perennials is that the first year I had no blooms, only green growth. But the second year they were fabulous.

Extra tip:
The daisy plants looked awful after the blooms finished, so I cut them back and had a second showing about a month or so later. Not only did it look better getting rid of the ragged old blossoms but the second blooms were nice.

Bye, Diane
