"Osteospermum -- African Daisy?"

I'm having the hardest time trying to find someone who carries what I guess is called an African Daisy, or osteospermum "Whirlygig"? Is it really a daisy, with just spoon or flute shaped petals? And why can't I find it anywhere in catalogs or on the web? It's such a pretty flower. Any info would be great.

Hi Amy, I found Osteospermum 'Passion Mix' (1999 AAS Winner) at Park's Seeds. www.parkseed.com 1-800-845-3369. The description says, "Unbeatable mix of colors, perfect for beds or pots-beautiful, daisy like, 2-inch flowers, in shades of purple, lavender, and white dispay prominent azure-blue centers. This sun-lover, 12-18 inches tall and 8-12 inches wide , is extremely drought tolerant. Pkt. is 10 seeds- $4.50"

They sound beautiful and the picture is very pretty. I also found them is an area nursery's catalog (wouldn't help you but I wanted to mention the price because $4.50 for 10 seeds seems pricey. The area nursery sells plants for $7.99 a single plant!!! I guess there aren't too many seeds of this lovely flower around, that might be why you are having a hard time finding them.

I think I am going to order some (the seeds) for the large pots that sit on my porch. I was looking for something different. Thanks for the idea.

Happy Gardening, Diane

Have you ordered any yet from another source?

I got two of these in gallon pots at Lowes. One is a traditional looking daisy and the other is purple and very pretty!
