Question I run a daycre from my home and I am thinking about starting a vegetable garden with the kids. We rent so I cannot remove the grass and space is limited. I was curious what type of vegetables can be planted in pots, and what plants are okay for this area (Portland, Or.)? Thank you for any information. Melissa
Hi Melissa, Do you have much sun where the pots will be? This is an important question to answer because some things like lettuce can handle limited sun but if you don’t have much sun, tomatoes, along with many other vegetables, wouldn’t do well.
Whatever you choose be sure it is suitable for pots (ie. Bush types or should say “suitable for containers”, etc).
And be sure to use good potting soil and regularly fertilize with diluted fish emulison and kelp or another natural soil boost. (I don't recommend commercial fertilizers because they are chemicals, don't want to feed those precious children chemicals!)
Best to your growing, Hoot
