Question We will begin growing a small vegetable garden at our school. What vegetables grows best in Florida? ( I am a novice).

Answer Hi Derek, Soooooo many veggies will grow in Florida (see former question about this subject for a list.) The important thing to ask is, "During what months are you growing a garden?" This matters because some things prefer heat (cucumbers and melons) while others don't perform well in heat. Other things like cooler temps, like peas and broccoli.

Go to a library to find a good vegetable gardening book so you can look up specific veggies and their needs. There you will find important information about length of days needed to grow certain things, does frost hurt them or not, harvesting info and such.

Many things will do best when planted as little plants (tomatoes & broccoli) while others will do best planting seeds directly into the ground, (beans & peas).
