Q. Will broccoli and eggplant grow in a big pot? A. Hi Timmy! Good question! I have seen tomatoes and small cucumber plants growing in big pots but not broccoli and egg plant. Egg plants are related to tomatoes (nightshade family) so I quess they would grow in a pot also. Broccoli might if you were to give it a big enough pot. Don't use soil from the ground but use potting soil and mix in compost. Veggies need lots of nurtients. Soil from the ground will become compacted in a pot and you need soil in pots to remain loose but fertile. Adding compost will give your plants extra vitamins. You might need to fertilize once and awhile during the summer.
Once you get a center head of broccoli be sure to cut it before it starts to flower. And keep on cutting the side shoots, they are also good to eat. They aren't as big as the first center head but once you collect several of them you have a nice addition to your dinner. As long as you keep cutting the side shoots the plant will keep producing. You can keep picking the broccoli up through heavy frosts in the fall. Broccoli doesn't mind a little frost.
Happy Gardening Timmy, Hoot
