Q. Hi Hoot How do earth worms have babies?
PS If you see MR. or Mrs. Franklin could you tell them I said HI??
BYE LISA
A. Hi Lisa, I saw you today visiting the farm; did you see me up in the tree? You and your sister were riding a bike and playing.
If you look closely at a mature worm you will see a band around its body. This band is called the clitellum. From this swollen area they mate with other worms. Worms are not male or female; they are all the same. A mucus tube then slides off the worm and forms a capsule, known as a cocoon. The cocoon can produce between 2 to 20 little baby worms, which will hatch within 14 to 21 days. Sometimes you can see the cocoons in the soil where worms hang out. At first a cocoon is lemon shaped and greenish-yellow. As the cocoons mature and come closer to the point of hatching they turn darker in color.
I will swoop down and tell those farmers hello for you, they are always around outside someplace.
So long Lisa! Hoot
