Spiders - Spiders
are very helpful to gardeners. They eat bugs that want to eat your plants.
Think of it this way, bugs that eat your plants (vegetarians) are not what you
want around your plants. Spiders are carnivores and they will find those
vegetarians very tasty.
When I find a spider in my house I put a jar over top of it. Then I use a piece of paper to slide along the wall so the spider will move further into the jar. Then the top goes on the jar and then it is released outside where it belongs.
Once there were two spiders in my house. So I caught one in a jar. Then I caught the other one in the same jar. Immediately I had to break them apart because the bigger one thought I had sent him dinner! So now I only catch one at a time.
The United States has only two poisonous spiders; the black widow and the brown recluse. You can find pictures of these to know what they look like.
If you can’t tell if something is a spider or an insect, count it’s legs. Spiders have 8 legs and insects have 6 legs.
